Historical Background
You cannot understand the spirituality and religion of any people without first understanding the culture. Therefore the historical and cultural background of the ancient Irish people is covered extensively to give the student a basic knowledge and understanding of both our cultural as well as spiritual heritage. We will eliminate many of the misconceptions commonly held concerning Old Ireland, her culture and her religion.
The Ancient Creed
The sacred law of our ancestors is given and explained so that the individual may work, live, study and worship in accordance with the teachings of our ancestors and in harmony with nature.
Our Deities
Students will be guided through path workings in which they can meet the Old Gods on a face-to-face basis and develop their own personal relationships.
Philosophy
The beliefs of the followers of the Old Religion of Ireland will be explained, including the concepts of our multi-faceted supreme deities and how we inter-act with them.
Divination
Instruction is included which leads the students into examining and testing those forces that affect the individual. The Irish Rún and the Tarot are two of the methods included.
Initiation
Formal initiation into the Temple of Danann is available to successful graduates of the course. However, there is no commitment on the part of the student for initiation, unless he or she chooses to do so.
Groves
Religions groups are close-knit families that are sometimes difficult to join. Graduates of our program are welcomed by others who know they have been properly trained.
Textbooks
Considerable reading is required outside of the course material in order to give an extensive a view of the ancient Irish. While we can not make all of the reference material available, the student is provided a comprehensive reading list to pursue through local University or local library using the Inter-Library Loan system. One essential reference is an Gaelic/English dictionary, whose source we will identify. We do not require that the student become conversational in modern Gaelic, but a substantial knowledge of Old and Middle Irish will become garnered during the course. |
