Mean Samhradh, Summer Solstice 2001

This has been one of those times when the words to a new, clever article just didn't flow. Not that I don't have something I could say. I always have something, but I don't' want to spout the same old diatribe to a captive audience who's heard it all before. There has been one particular irritant. That is the tendency for most so-called experts to lump all Celts and their imagined religions into one gooey mess. I seriously resisted for a while, but finally gave up and polished up a piece I had been playing with for a few weeks, The Diverse Celts, which you will find else where in this issue. To give you an idea of how irritated I was, my working title was "Not all Celts are the same, you idiot." Willow thought that might be a bit provocative, hence the toned down title.
Of course definitions are as diverse as those who make them. Another totally misunderstood work is "Paganism." Even the dictionaries don't agree on this one. Some say Paganism is a polytheistic religion. Others say "…not Judeo-Christian." You can read all sorts of garbage out there on the internet that will lead you to believe that Paganism, Wicca and Witchcraft are all the same. That isn't true either.
I guess the point I should be making is that a person should understand the term before trying to apply it. Chuckle, especially if you're talking to me. Of course, everyone has the right to be whatever they want to be. But unless you understand what that is, you aren't going to make it.
To change the subject, some of you will notice that Willow's input to this issue is less than usual. In her efforts to self-improvement, she is devoting time to academics and part-time employment to cover expenses. So for a while, the Editorial comments will necessarily be mine. Fortunately, she remains our web-master and she can still be reached via e-mail.

Blessing,

Michael
